Smart-Tint double glazed units can be switched from clear to opaque to control privacy, solar heat gain and glare. This switchable glass unit can be used in both windows and roofs and has a variety of uses replacing outdated mechanical shades and blinds with modern technology.

Complex roof shapes make roof blinds expensive and hard to fit but with Smart-Tint shapes are easy. Until now switchable glass units were only available on long lead times with thick heavy laminates and prices around the £800 - £900 per metre sq mark. These are now available for the uk glass market at far more affordable prices.

The units are manufactured with 4mm toughened inner and outer panes not 10 or 12mm panes which make Smart-Tint very cost effective and also far more easy to handle., giving architects far more freedom to use this technology in standard 24mm and 28mm rebates and still achieve good U-values.

The glass units are powered by a small transformer and switch very fast in under a second giving a real wow factor. When switched on in the clear state, the view is uninterrupted (unlike blinds) with a stylish and modern finish which can be used in doors, roof lights and windows of any shape.

Smart-Tint units are manufactured with an intelligent high grade functional film inside the unit which can adjust light under electric current to switch between clear and opaque.

In the clear state the haze is less than 10% allowing good passive solar heat gain, good light transmission of 70% and clear visibility.

When a 65 Volt power supply is applied to the unit via a range of control switches the glass may be switched to opaque for privacy and scattered light for glare control.

In addition to this the infra red solar heat transmission is reduced blocking the suns heat and reducing solar heat gain. Damaging UV radiation is cut by 99% in the clear and 100% in the opaque state preventing bleaching to furniture and flooring.
